The Rich Man’s Daughter, the title is just that simple. Until you know the rest of the story.
For reference, I copied this synopsis from wiki:
As Jade (Played by Rhian Ramos) discovers something about herself and upholds her personal truths, will she still be able to experience unconditional love from her family and friends? Will she be able to hold on to her personal truths and fight for her love even if it will destroy her family? She is a woman looking for answers. Is she willing to break her family’s traditions? The youngest and only daughter, Jade is the family’s jewel. When she meets Althea, everyone’s perspective of her life and persona changes.
GMA 7 finally learned how to play with their viewers putting pretentious title to soap operas which will eventually blow our minds.
Honestly, I am not a Kapuso. I don’t even watch TV these past few months because of working. I’m a self-confessed Kapamilya back then but I remember writing a blog about a GMA drama called My Husband’s Lover, which in contrast to A Rich Man’s Daughter, will somehow give you a clue on the storyline. However the lover of the husband is also a guy, which made the story different. I’m intrigued so I watched every episode, even write reviews.
I love daring shows. I am not pertaining to the nudity or intimacy shown on the drama however. With daring I mean the plot. The topic, that we all know is taboo, not accepted by the society. Truth be told, no matter how we see it, loving someone from the same sex is still immoral.
But before the members of the third sex community bash me if ever they read this post, let me defend myself by discussing more about the show.
In all honesty, I don’t have any idea about the drama until I finished watching the episode of Let The Love Begin which stars my newest (and only) Kapuso crush, the teen actor Ruru Madrid. I decided not to change channels or turn the TV off because I’m not yet sleepy. I’ve come to know that there’s a new drama starring Rhian Ramos. She starts the story with a narration (which assured me that this is a new show).
The pilot episode was ordinary, until it came on the last part (the part when Rhian Ramos glanced at Glaiza de Castro, continued walking on the isle as a bridesmaid, stopped, looked back and stared at Glaiza again). This startled me. I got curious and got the “yuri” feels. (For those who do not know, yuri is a term which Japanese anime fans used for “girl’s love”, the exact opposite of “yaoi” which is “boy’s love”). I finished watching the final episode deciding to watch it until the end and that this will be another trending drama for GMA 7. Brace yourselves for the trending topics on twitter!
After turning the TV off, I immediately searched google for the details of this show. I learned that the supposedly lead actress who’ll portray Jade (Rhian) was Marian Rivera. She pulled herself out of the show due to delicate pregnancy. It was saddening on her part I guess, cos I know for sure this show will make waves especially with the rampant use of social media.
Lesbians are increasingly learning how to act normal by the way they look. You can never tell who’s straight or not. Remember the “paminta?” They’re the female counterpart. Lipstick lesbians as they may be called. They do not try hard to be someone they are not, except for what they feel. Not that I have something against tomboys (women who fully dress and act like men). I just find them pretentious. Accept it, if you see two girly females having a date, you wouldn’t think twice that they are just friends, right? That lessens the dirty thinking of the majority of people nowadays. Isn’t that helpful? Should you have other useful benefits please feel free to comment.
Anyway, I guess this is a very controversial issue waiting to be discussed. I’m getting excited with the next episodes (not that I can relate to it). As I said, I love daring and controversial dramas.
As with GMA 7, thank you for opening the Pinoy’s mind to this kind of issue, that’s the main goal of this show. The issue with the ratings comes second.
